Review of WLCI Fashion School on Monica Singh

This Sunday, Delhi and NCR woke-up to a pleasant morning with rain-bearing clouds scattered across the horizon. Delhi also woke up to story published in Times of India that caught everyone’s attention.

The story of an acid-attack survivor Monica Singh who with grit and determination has not only overcome a catastrophic incident in her life but has succeeded in aspiring for a new beginning by getting admission to the globally-recognized Parsons New School of Design in New York for a course in Fashion marketing. Monica Singh who is a student of Fashion Designing has had 43 reconstructive surgeries for the past 9 years and now dreams of chasing her passion - A Career in Fashion Marketing.

Monica who is originally from Lucknow was attacked with acid in 2005 after she refused a marriage proposal. Many women like her in India face such traumatic experiences of being scarred by acid by perpetrators/criminals that go scot-free for the lack and the apathy of the criminal-justice system.

This incident made Monica Singh more determined and with the help of her family she has rebuilt her life bit by bit, slowly but steadily. Her story was first published by “Make Love Not Scars” website, run by an NGO which wishes to raise the $50,000 tuition fee required by her to study @ Parsons.

WLCI School of Fashion salutes Monica Singh for her rare courage, determination and grit and wishes her success at every step of her inspiring journey ahead !
